OpenTAK Integration

ATLAS integrates with the Team Awareness Kit (TAK) ecosystem for real-time team coordination and situational awareness sharing.

TAK (Team Awareness Kit) is a situational awareness platform used by military, law enforcement, and emergency services. ATLAS pushes your assessment data to an OpenTAK Server so your team can see it on their maps in real-time.

ATLAS works with:

  • OpenTAK Server — Self-hosted TAK server
  • ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit)
  • WinTAK (Windows)
  • iTAK (iOS)

Export a Data Package from your OpenTAK Server admin console. This .zip file contains:

  • Server address and port
  • Client SSL certificate (.p12)
  • CA certificate
  • Connection preferences

Copy your OpenTAK config .zip file to this directory on your Android device:

/storage/emulated/0/ATLAS/

Use LocalSend (cross-platform, no internet required) or USB transfer to move the file.

  1. Go to Settings → TAK Server
  2. Tap Load Config
  3. Select your .zip file from the list
  4. ATLAS parses the configuration and extracts certificates
  1. Tap Connect
  2. Wait for the status indicator to turn green (Connected)
  3. If connection fails, check the error message for certificate or network issues

Once connected, select a mission to organize your pushed data:

  1. Available missions appear in the Mission Name dropdown
  2. Select one, or type a custom name to create a new mission
  3. If mission is password-protected, enter the password
  4. Tap Set Active Mission

Control what data ATLAS pushes to your server:

ToggleDescription
Push NotesSend field notes with GPS coordinates
Push POIsSend points of interest
Push Cards/MagstripeSend captured RFID and magstripe data

Toggle each data type on or off in Settings → TAK Server → Data Types.

ATLAS pushes the following as KML files to your active mission:

  • Captured Cards — RFID cards with location and metadata
  • Magstripe Reads — Track data with GPS
  • Points of Interest — Custom POIs
  • Notes — Field notes with coordinates
  • Situational Awareness Items — Cameras, entry points, barriers, security personnel

To automatically receive mission data in ATAK, install the Data Sync plugin:

Data Sync Plugin on Google Play

This plugin automatically pulls items sent to missions, so pushed data from ATLAS appears on your map without manual refresh.

When connected, access additional controls:

Browse and manage missions on the server.

Settings → TAK Server → Missions

View connected EUDs (End User Devices) and clients.

Settings → TAK Server → End User Devices

View TAK groups and memberships.

Settings → TAK Server → Groups

ATLAS logs all TAK server activity during your session:

  1. Go to Settings → TAK Server
  2. Tap the log viewer to see:
    • Connection attempts
    • Mission operations
    • Push successes and failures
    • CoT streaming events

No TAK server? Export directly to KML:

  1. Open a project
  2. Tap Export → KML
  3. Share the file with your team

KML files import into ATAK, Google Earth, or any GIS software.

Connection fails immediately?

  • Verify the server is online and reachable
  • Check that your config .zip was exported correctly
  • Re-import the configuration

Certificate errors?

  • Certificates may have expired — request new ones from your server admin
  • Ensure the config was exported from a working Data Package

Mission not visible in dropdown?

  • Missions are filtered by group membership
  • Contact your server admin for access
  • Tap the refresh button to reload the mission list

Data not appearing on team maps?

  • Confirm you’re in the same mission
  • Verify items have GPS coordinates
  • Check the connection log for push errors
